Avalanche Activity

Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack represent the main danger.

Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads in particular on steep shady slopes. This applies in particular in little used terrain, as well as in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow above the tree line. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard crust.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations in some places. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak.

Tendency

Above approximately 1000 m snow will fall on Friday. The wind will be moderate to strong. Gradual increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind. Above approximately 1800 m danger level 2 (moderate) will be reached.
