Snowpack Structure

Wednesday: The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust. The weather will be very cloudy. Some snow will fall over a wide area.

Tendency

Gradual increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of the snowfall.

Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs at high altitude. Weakly bonded old snow in particular on steep shady slopes.

As a consequence of new snow and a light to moderate southwesterly wind, mostly shallow wind slabs formed in all regions. They can be released very easily. The avalanche prone locations are to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Weak layers in the old snowpack are difficult to recognise. These can in isolated cases be released by a single winter sport participant. Avalanches are medium-sized. The avalanche prone locations are to be found on steep, little used shady slopes.
