Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs require caution. Significant increase in avalanche danger in the course of the day.

20 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the afternoon above approximately 1800 m. As a consequence of new snow and wind the wind slabs will increase in size. These can be released by a single winter sport participant. This applies in particular on steep slopes, and on wind-loaded slopes. In some places avalanches can be triggered in the old snowpack and reach large size in isolated cases. The current avalanche situation calls for caution and restraint.

Snowpack Structure

The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack in some places in particular on steep sunny slopes. Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes.

Tendency

The new snow remains prone to triggering.
