Chic-Choc Mountains, Chic-Chocs.
A low danger rating does not mean there is no danger. Small wet loose avalanches remain possible on steep, sun-exposed slopes, particularly if the skies clear up on Saturday afternoon.
No new avalanches have been observed or reported.
If you head into the backcountry, thanks for sharing your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN).
In the alpine, 2–10 cm of fresh snow lies on top of a hard crust formed by cycles of melting and refreezing. Small, isolated wind slabs may also be present on south-facing slopes.
Despite limited sunshine forecast for Saturday, on sunny slopes, particularly at lower altitudes, the surface snow could become moist and transform during the day. Small wet snow avalanches will be possible on steep south-facing slopes if sunny spells develop in the afternoon.
The snowpack continues to melt below the tree line.
At mid-mountain, the average snowpack depth is around 125 cm.
