Avalanche Summary

Looking ahead, small avalanches may be possible in wind-affected alpine terrain and possibly on steep south-facing slopes where recent snow sits above a crust.Limited recent avalanche activity has been reported in this region. One skier triggered size 2 avalanche was reported in the Duffey area on Saturday. It ran on 25 cm deep crust layer in a southwest-facing clearing below treeline. See this MIN report for details. On Friday, one isolated wind slab avalanche (size 2) was triggered by a skier on a east-facing alpine feature.

Snowpack Summary

5-15 cm of low density snow sits above a mix of hard wind affected snow and crusts on south-facing features. Moist snow and crusts may be found on the surface of south aspects (see this MIN report). Several crusts can be found 40 to 80 cm below the surface. Some softer surface hoar and faceted snow may be found around these crusts, but has produced little avalanche activity over the past month. The remainder of the snowpack is generally well-settled.
