Highlights
The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE today and will most likely remain at that level on Friday. Expert level snowpack assessment and route finding skills are essential for avoiding avalanches today and tomorrow. With the current weather outlook, I'm anticipating the snowpack to stabilize and become less dangerous into next week.
Special Announcement
State Road 31 through Huntington Canyon is currently open. Depending on snow amounts today and this evening from the storm that is moving in, there is a chance that SR-31 in Huntington Canyon will close tonight and into Friday.
Snow and Weather
3 to 5 inches of snow fell in the last 24 hours along the Skyline. The snow continues to slowly stack up and riding conditions are deep and excellent. A somewhat unusual storm is moving in for today into Friday. It is going to have a southeast flow so it is a little difficult to anticipate just how much snow it will bring. My best guess is that we'll see 5 to 10 inches but the east side of the Skyline will probably be favored because of the "upslope flow" from the southeast wind direction. Overall, the wind speeds look fairly light through this event. This may be a factor in limiting snow amounts in the higher terrain. Temperatures remain cold through this storm.
