Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 5 to 10 cm of snow, and up to 20 cm in some localities, has fallen since Monday. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. In high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
