Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs and wet snow represent the main danger.

In the vicinity of peaks a dangerous avalanche situation will be encountered in some localities. The more recent wind slabs are mostly small and can in some cases be released easily. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day there will be an increase in the danger of wet avalanches. Above approximately 1500 m small moist and wet avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack will be in most cases moist. The small quantity of fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs formed by the strong wind are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack.
