Avalanche Activity
In the afternoon as the precipitation becomes more intense there will be a rapid increase in the avalanche danger to level 4 (high).
A lot of snow will fall. As the snowfall becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase from midday. In the afternoon over a wide area danger level 4 (high) will be reached. In all aspects more frequent large avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of new snow and strong wind. Avalanches can reach valley bottoms and in some places endanger exposed transportation routes. Without question, it is inadvisable to engage in ski touring, freeriding and snowshoe hiking.
Snowpack Structure
The old snowpack is well consolidated and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. A lot of snow will fall until Sunday over a wide area. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The southerly wind will transport the new snow significantly. Intermediate and high altitudes: Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes.
