Snowpack Structure

During the last snowfall (Thursday - Friday) 10 - 25 cm of new snow fell. The new snow was transported by strong winds to the leeward slopes, to the couloirs and under the saddles of S, SE and SW orientations. On the southern (sunlit) slopes the snow softened considerably during the day.

Avalanche release is only possible at the highest altitudes in this region on steep slopes with higher additional loads. Occasionally, smaller spontaneous avalanches from new wet snow are possible.
