Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches were reported on Sunday. If you have any recent observations during your travels, we would greatly appreciate it if you posted a photo or any other information to the Mountain Information Network (MIN). Thanks!

Snowpack Summary

Around 30 cm of recent snowfall has likely been blown around by southerly wind, which overlies a melt-freeze crust. This recent snow should remain dry above 1500 m on northerly aspects but will otherwise moisten with an increasing freezing level and sunny periods. The snowpack is rapidly melting below 1200 m.

Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Wind slabs in lee terrain features near ridges remain suspect. Use added caution when entering these slopes.
Use small slopes without consequence to test the bond of the recent snow.Expect conditions to change rapidly with aspect and elevation.Be careful with wind-loaded pockets, especially near ridge crests.

Aspects: North, North East, North West.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Loose Wet

Loose wet avalanches may occur when the sun is out or if rain falls on the recent snow. Loose wet avalanches can grow in size quickly, so use added caution under these weather conditions.
Avoid terrain traps such as cliffs and gullies that increase the consequence of small avalanches.Use added caution during periods of strong sun or rain, particularly if the snow is moist or wet.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2
