Avalanche Activity

The new snow of the last few days represents the main danger.

In some localities 0 to 5 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2000 m. Exposed parts of transportation routes can be endangered occasionally above approximately 2000 m. In particular on steep shady slopes the avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size. The current avalanche situation calls for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger. In all aspects a considerable avalanche danger will persist in some cases. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided as far as possible.

Snowpack Structure

The covering of new snow is moist. The new snow is lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack on shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. The new snow can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases in all aspects above the tree line. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers also.
