Regions

Kananaskis.

Happy Holidays!! Remember that the snowpack is still delicate despite the storm being long over. It is still a good idea to avoid any exposure to big avalanche terrain. Even small, low angle slopes could produce avalanches. See the Special Public Avalanche Warning for details.

Weather Forecast

Another clear day with light winds for tomorrow. Overnight temps will be near -20 with a day time high -10. No new snow is expected.

Avalanche Summary

A sz2 was noted today in the northern part of the region.

Snowpack Summary

Overall not a lot of change in the last 24 hours. The storm snow is still noticeably stiffer than the underlying layers which is creating problems. The new snow is having a hard time bonding to the weal mid pack. Whumphing and cracking are still occurring, especially below treeline.

Terrain and Travel

  • Avoid steep convex slopes.
  • Be aware of the potential for large avalanches due to the presence of a deep persistent slab.
