Conditions remain unchanged, with mostly frozen surfaces and soft snow in some areas (north aspects). Winds have done a number on the snow surface at high elevations such as on the Wapta Icefields. Cornices are big, so keep your distance.

Weather Forecast
A light upslope flow continues to effect the region bringing trace amounts of snow to the eastern slopes, while cold temperatures prevail with freezing levels remaining at the surface. Winds will remain generally light from the NE for the next 48-hours. Cool temperatures will continue through the weekend with light snow and overcast skies.
Snowpack Summary
5-10 cm of soft surface snow sits on a firm crust on N aspects and is very wind effected in the alpine. On solar aspects expect a variety of breakable crust and firm crusts that carry the weight of a skier, boarder or walker. Within the snowpack, a series of crusts exist at all elevations. Ski crampons are advisable.
Avalanche Summary
Teams from the Wapta have reported seeing numerous large cornice failures in the past few days. Most of the reported cornice failures did not release any slabs after impact. Otherwise, no new avalanches were observed or reported.
