Avalanche Summary

Pikes Peak's highly variable and firm snow surface makes triggering an avalanche difficult, but not impossible. You might be able to trigger a small avalanche on hard, drifted snow on slopes steeper than about 35 degrees. If the snow feels hard and hollow or you see shooting cracks around your feet as you travel, move to a different slope or stick to lower-angle terrain.
