The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE today. Sunlight and rapidly warming temperatures today will quickly weaken the snowpack. Riders and skiers will have an increasing potential today to trigger slab avalanches to three foot depths in very steep high elevation terrain. Be particularly aware of slopes that are prime for hill climbing and in steep terrain under cliff and rocky areas. Natural wet slide activity is also possible today. ( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Sunday morning looks to be dry followed by a chance of rain and mountain snow showers during the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible. Following overnight lows in the upper twenties, temperatures are to rise into the upper forties and winds are expected to have averages of less than ten miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE in steep wind loaded avalanche terrain where recent snow storms have deposited snow upon the older snowpack. Generally this hazard exists above 9000 feet although it does reach into lower elevations in the Southwest Trails area and isolated areas of the Tetons. As temperatures quickly rise Sunday morning, the snow surface will weaken providing for the possibility of wet slides as well as the increased chance for human triggered slab avalanches to three foot depths in very steep terrain near cliff and rocky areas.
