Avalanche Summary

While avalanches are getting harder to trigger, they remain a concern. Shady slopes with wind-drifted snow pose the greatest danger. These will be the slopes that look most enticing because they have the best coverage. You can trigger an avalanche from the bottom or edges of these slopes. You can find safer travel on slopes without a buried weak layer, where you do not find a slab, or on slopes less than about 30 degrees.
