You can trigger avalanches on steep slopes with wind-drifted snow. Look for rounded pillows and feel for stiff, hollow layers. You are most likely to find drifted snow near ridgelines or along gullies in the alpine. Pay attention to drifting into unusual locations from strong winds. Slopes sheltered from the wind offer safer and better riding.
Above-freezing temperatures mean you might see point releases in wet, cohesionless snow. Avoid steep slopes, especially above terrain traps, where you see rollerballs or sink up to your ankles in wet, cohesionless snow.
