Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche at higher, exposed elevations on easterly-facing slopes where recently drifting snow forms a dense slab. Look for and avoid slopes with smooth rounded surfaces that look textured or have a hollow drum-like feeling directly below ridgetops, on the sides of gullies, or steep convex rollovers. If you see signs of recent avalanches or cracking within the new snow, move to wind-sheltered slopes less than about 30 degrees.
