As a consequence of a moderate to strong wind from northwesterly directions, mostly small wind slabs formed in the vicinity of peaks. These can in some places be released by a single winter sport participant. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and in places that are protected from the wind the avalanche danger is a little higher. Below the tree line the avalanche prone locations are more rare and the danger is lower. As a consequence of solar radiation moist small and medium sized avalanches are possible as the day progresses.
In the vicinity of peaks the wind slabs have increased in size moderately. In some places wind slabs are lying on old snow containing large grains. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on steep, rather lightly snow-covered shady slopes. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack also at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. Sunny slopes: Towards its surface, the snowpack is fairly homogeneous and its surface has a melt-freeze crust. The weather conditions will foster a gradual settling of the snowpack also above the tree line.
