Avalanche Forecast
Regions: Little Yoho.
Watch out for cornices above you while traveling and wind slabs in the immediate lee of ridge line features and cross wind affected features at TL and above. Pay particular attention to solar slopes where crusts may have recently been buried. PJ
Weather Forecast
A Warm Front will approach the southern Rockies today. Precipitation associated with the Front will spread into regions near the Canada-USA boarder later this afternoon and will have up slope component to the behavior of the system. Precipitation will continue tonight and through most of Monday before the Front weakens on Monday evening.
Snowpack Summary
Strong SW'ly winds have stripped windward slopes and deposited the 5-10 cm's of new snow onto leeward aspects (north through easterly slopes). Wind slabs up to 30cm's have been observed at TL and Alpine locations. The mid pack and base of the snowpack is well settled and well bonded overall.
Avalanche Summary
The interfaces that were buried with this recent storm, particularly on the south aspects - should be treated with respect and caution. No natural avalanches have been reported recently.
Confidence
Timing, track, or intensity of incoming weather system is uncertain on Monday
Avalanche Problems
Wind Slabs
15-20 cm with strong Westerly winds have formed isolated wind slabs in lee features. These may be touchy - especially where the slabs overlay old crusts on solar aspects.
- The new snow will require several days to settle and stabilize.
- Watch for whumpfing, hollow sounds, and shooting cracks.
Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.
Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.
