Cooling temps and an unstable airmass persist for another few days.

Tonight: Mainly clear. Alpine low -14*C, freezing level (fzl) at valley bottom. Light east wind.

Mon: Mainly sunny, High -9*C, fzl 900m, moderate E wind

Tue: Cloudy with sunny periods. Low -17*C, High -11*C, fzl 600m. Light E wind

Snowpack Summary

Up high, mod-strong SW wind redistributed up to 15cm of new snow, which overlies a crust on all but N'ly alpine slopes where it's on settled dry snow.  Below treeline the spring snowpack has undergone several melt-freeze cycles. The March 30th melt-freeze crust is buried 30-70cm deep.

Avalanche Summary

A skier triggered a small wind slab in a lee feature on the north side of Mt Cheops Saturday. Glide cracks have been on the move lately, with a size 2 glide slab avalanche from the S aspect of Mt. Tupper early on Saturday, a size 3 from S Mt. Tupper on Friday.

New snow and moderate winds Saturday built fresh windslabs in lees. These may sit over a crust on slopes with sun exposure.

  • Use caution above cliffs and terrain traps where small avalanches may have severe consequences.
  • Watch for shooting cracks or stiffer feeling snow. Avoid areas that appear wind loaded.
