Regions: Glacier.

Classic spring conditions, with the overnight freeze. Expect good travel and good stability in the early morning. Avalanche hazard will rise through the day. Start early and get off of large slopes before the sun has a significant effect.

Weather Forecast

High pressure ridge will dominate over the Province for the next few days bringing mostly clear skies, no precipitation and light alpine winds. Overnight temperatures will dip well below freezing with freezing levels rising to 1600m during the day.

Snowpack Summary

Multiple crusts in the top 1.0m of the snowpack. Overall warm temperatures within the snowpack. Once the overnight crust breaks down with daytime warming it wont take long for the snowpack to loose a lot of its strength by becoming isothermal. The mid and lower snowpack are well settled.

Avalanche Summary

No new natural avalanches yesterday

Avalanche Problems

Persistent Slabs

Multiple weak layers in the top 1.0 m of the snowpack. These layers may become more reactive as the snowpack warms with daytime heat and weakens them. Large triggers like cornice falls may also do the trick.
Pay attention to overhead hazards like cornices.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 2 - 3

Storm Slabs

Snow accumulations varied greatly during the past two storms, more was received on the west end of the Park. Reactive slabs may linger in the alpine. Be aware as the snow transitions from crust to soft snow under your boards.
Be cautious as you transition into wind affected terrain.Caution in lee and cross-loaded terrain near ridge crests.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Loose Wet

Strong solar radiation is forecast for today. Once the overnight crust breaks down expect more avalanche activity on solar aspects.
Avoid sun exposed slopes when the solar radiation is strong, especially if snow is moist or wet.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2
