Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Wind slabs continue to remain the main concern at high elevations in the alpine, use caution lee of alpine ridge crests and on cross loaded features.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Storm Slabs

A freezing rain crust down 50 - 60cm more prevalent west of Rogers Pass summit, shows signs of strengthening but skier triggering remains possible.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 2 - 3

Persistent Slabs

The Dec. 11 SH layer down 100 - 150cm may produce avalanches when heavily loaded. Cornice failure which is a current concern or a step down from a shallower avalanche are examples.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South, South West.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Unlikely

Expected Size: 2 - 3
