Regions: Kananaskis.

Travel will be easier in open areas. Wind slabs are widespread at tree line and above and should be evaluated before committing to larger slopes.

Weather Forecast

Monday is forecast to be mainly cloudy with the odd isolated flurry. Temperatures will start out at -9c and warm up to -2c. Winds will be light out of the West.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches were observed or reported.

Snowpack Summary

On Monday morning there should be another solid refreeze to keep everything locked in place. While air temps will stay below zero, the sun is starting to have some heat if it pokes its head out. We are finding a 1cm sun crust up to 2000m on S-W aspects. Windslabs are still widespread in most areas and remain our biggest avalanche problem.

Terrain and Travel

  • Be careful with wind slabs, especially in steep, unsupported and/or convex terrain features.
  • Watch for areas of hard wind slab on alpine features.
