Regions: Glacier.

Snow is accumulating, but it is still too early to safely rip it up yet, what with all the alders, boulders, open creeks and exposed crevasses. As more snow arrives, consider avalanche hazard in your decision-making as threshold values are reached.

Avalanche Summary

No avalanches have been reported or observed in the early days of this new winter season. I suspect steep gullies and wind-loaded areas in the high alpine (think the upper N face of Mt MacDonald) have the potential to cough out loose avalanches big enough to ruin your day.

Snowpack Summary

The infant snowpack of 2022/23: as of Oct 31, average snowpack depths are ~10-20cm at 1300m, 40-60cm at treeline, and 70-90cm at ridge top. These values are below threshold for burying rocks, stumps, bridging crevasses, and covering creeks.
