Weather Forecast

Christmas Day will have temperatures between -8c and -12c along with light SW winds and a mix of sun and cloud.

Boxing Day will cool off to -18c, light winds and also a mix of sun and cloud.

Avalanche Summary

One size 3.5 natural avalanche occurred within the last 24hrs along Tent Ridge. Several other size 2 and 3 were observed.

Snowpack Summary

Natural avalanche activity has slowed down but there is still a strong likelihood of human triggering. There is about 60-110cm of storm snow that is settling slowly. Below treeline, open glades should be approached with caution as the storm snow is sitting on a weak faceted base. Yesterday, the forecasters were able to ski cut avalanches to ground in the forest. Exposure to overhead hazard should be approached cautiously.

Terrain and Travel

  • In times of uncertainty conservative terrain choices are our best defense.
  • Conservative terrain selection is critical, choose only well supported, low consequence lines.
  • Any steep opening in the trees should be treated as suspect right now.
