Avalanche Forecast

The avalanche danger is variable and can range from Low to High. Travelling early in the day is recommended, as conditions can change rapidly in short periods of time due to daytime warming. Pay careful attention to the integrity of the surface crusts formed overnight and rising air temperatures during the day. Dry slab avalanche danger may also exist during spring snow storms. Some warm some cold, some sun and some snow/rain! The weather is typical spring weather at this time. It can be all 4 seasons in one day! Things to think about are when it warms up or rains, wet slides are possible that will go far down below the valley floor into snow free areas. Think about overhead terrain. Glissading down snow can also be a big trigger as you get wet slides running so use causing as you descend from a location later in the day when the snow is warm and loose. As new storms come in, watch for slabs to develop in alpine areas. Be thinking about what that snow is overlying and if windslabs are developing. As long as there is snow on the ground, avalaches are still possible so keep this in mind.
