Spring is here and we are no longer issuing specific elevation danger ratings. Early starts are key and pay close attention to the quality of the freeze overnight and incoming factors such as snow, rain or intense solar radiation that can decrease stability.

Summary

Early Season Comment

Conditions change rapidly during the spring. So pay close attention to weather factors such as new snow, rain, temperatures freezing levels.

Early Season Message

The avalanche danger is variable and can range from Low to High. Travelling early in the day is recommended, as conditions can change rapidly in short periods of time due to daytime warming. Pay careful attention to the integrity of the surface crusts formed overnight and rising air temperatures during the day. Dry slab avalanche danger may also exist during spring snow storms. Field Observations for your area may be available at the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) Mountain Conditions Report Website: http://www.mountainconditions.com. Weather Forecast

Saturday is calling for cooler temperatures with a few cms of new snow and moderate winds out of the west. Freezing level will be around 1500m during the heat of the day and we expect the quality of the overnight freeze to be poor. We are no longer issuing a elevation specific danger rating due to the high variation of conditions such as overnight freeze, solar radiation and temperatures that affect stability throughout the day. In general, stability will be better in the morning with the cooler temperatures and decrease throughout the day. Early starts and finishes are key!
