Summary

Weather Forecast

The ridge of high pressure should make for a nice day today. By Saturday it is expected to start to break down and expect increasing cloud and moisture through the day. Freezing levels are forecast to stay high, lowering to 2100m briefly on Sunday. Over the weekend expect accumulations up to 15cm in the alpine with moderate to strong S'ly winds.

Snowpack Summary

Above ~ 1800m the snowpack varies from 90 to 150cm, with rapid settlement of recent snow due to warm temperatures. Expect a surface crust to form with overnight cooling. Below 1800m the snowpack dwindles rapidly, with only 25cm at 1300m. At treeline and above there are a series of crusts within the snowpack that may bond poorly.

Avalanche Summary

Yesterday, several large naturally triggered avalanches were observed along the highway. They occurred from steep solar aspects, with moist avalanches up to size 3. There are limited back-country observations at this time.
