Avalanche Summary

No avalanches or signs of instability were reported this week.

Watch for other hazards like creek crossings, holes, and slippery surfaces.

Snowpack Summary

Fresh snow arrived Thursday, bringing 10 to 20 cm around Gros Morne and up to 30 cm south of Corner Brook. Where snow remains, it is bonding quickly to a hard crust; elsewhere, it sits on bare ground.

The snowpack has melted significantly over the past month, but decent coverage remains in the Lewis Hills and wind-loaded bowls and gullies across the region.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • This is a good time for exploring terrain.
  • Pay attention to isolated wind affected features in the alpine, as well as cross-loaded features at treeline.
  • Avalanche activity is unlikely when a thick melt-freeze crust is present on the snow surface.
