Avalanche Summary

Early season, observations are limited. Thanks for sharing your observation through the Mountain Information Network if you head out.

No new avalanches have been observed or reported. Please share your observations at bulletin@avalanchequebec.ca or via the Mountain Information Network.

Snowpack Summary

The passage of the last storm resulted in a very large melting of the snowpack at all elevations. The height of the snowpack varies between 0 and 25 cm at around 600m of altitude. At and below treeline, many areas are now exposed and there is not enough snow to produce avalanches at these elevations. In the alpine, depressions and concavities retain a certain amount of snow. For the moment, the snowpack is isothermal, meaning that the snow is moist from top to bottom. A nice crust will form this evening and over the next few days.

Weather Summary

Synopsis: Temperatures will cool from this evening, hovering around -10C to -15C over the next few days, with a few sunny spells. Light to moderate winds will shift from southwest to northwest towards the end of the week.

Tuesday evening and night : A few showers, ending around midnight. Partly cloudy. Temperatures will drop below freezing to -10C overnight. Wind 20-30 km/h from the southwest.

Wednesday: Alternating sun and cloud. Maximum -5C. Minimum -10C. Wind 20 to 30 km/h from the west.

Thursday: Cloudy. High -11C. Wind 30 to 40 km/h from the northwest. 2 cm of snow.

Friday: Alternating sun and cloud. High -12C. Wind 20 to 30 km/h from the northwest. 3 cm of snow.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Travelling on skis is hazardous due to a very shallow mountain snowpack.
  • When a thick, melt-freeze surface crust is present, avalanche activity is unlikely.
