Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Adjust your travel plans accordingly to the changing conditions of elevation and time of day.
  • Remember that in the spring strong solar radiation and warm temperatures can weaken the snow in a matter of minutes.
  • Cornices become weak with daytime heating or solar exposure.
  • Cornice failure may trigger large avalanches.
  • Rain or periods of intense solar radiation can rapidly enhance the effects of warming.
