Regions: Mt Hood.

The storm over the region Saturday night and Sunday will produce mainly rain for the Mt. Hood area at elevations where avalanche forecasts apply. The avalanche danger on the upper volcano and out of our forecast area will likely be high due to heavy snow and strong winds. Travel into the alpine is strongly discouraged.

Detailed Forecast

The storm system over the region Saturday night and Sunday is expected to bring heavy rain and wind for the majority of Mt. Hood below the elevations where NWAC avalanche forecasts apply. The avalanche danger on the upper volcano and out of our forecast area will likely be high due to heavy snow and strong winds. Travel into the alpine is strongly discouraged.  An avalanche forecast for this zone will be issued when the snowpack is deep enough to present widespread avalanche potential.

Snowpack Discussion

The snowpack on Mt. Hood below 6500' remains shallow and remains marginal for avalanche formation.  Snowdepths are now 1-2 ft after snowfall Saturday at NWAC stations near tree-line.  We have no recent avalanche activity to discuss at this point... we are waiting for more snow.
