Regions: Glacier.

Be cautious of freshly formed soft slabs on alpine and treeline lee slope terrain.

Weather Forecast

The various forecasts call for light to nil precipitation along with light winds for the next couple of days.

Snowpack Summary

30cm+ of low density snow has fallen over the last 72hrs. 4-5hrs of moderate southerly winds last night will have redistributed this storm snow onto alpine and ridgeline lee features.

Avalanche Summary

One size 2.5 and one size 1.5 storm slab avalanches out of steep S aspect terrain of Mt Tupper yesterday along the highway corridor.

Confidence

Avalanche Problems

Storm Slabs

4-5 hours of low end of moderate southerly winds are expected to have formed soft slabs in the immediate lee of alpine and treeline ridges and cross winded features.
Use caution in lee areas. Recent wind loading have created wind slabs.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Persistent Slabs

80cm+ settled snow sits on top of the Dec 2nd interface. This layer consists of decomposing surface hoar at and below treeline and suncrusts on steep solar aspects in the alpine.
Avoid convexities or areas with a thin or variable snowpack.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Loose Dry

Loose dry sloughing of storm snow can be expected in very steep terrain. This is more of a concern in steep confined gully features.
Avoid exposure to terrain traps where the consequences of a small avalanche could be serious.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2
