Regions: Glacier.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, cautious route selection continues to be required during these days of a reactive surface hoar layer in the snowpack, specially at treeline and below. So it's not time to let your guard down.

Avalanche Problems

Persistent Slabs

Until conditions change dramatically our buried surface hoar layers down around one meter will remain our primary concern. Skiers have triggered this layer many times this week causing avalanches to size 2. It is most reactive at treeline and below.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Wind Slabs

Winds picked up overnight and are currently strong enough to form wind slabs. Caution traveling on lee slopes in the alpine. Nearing ridge crests and on cross loaded features are areas where you want to pay close attention to wind stiffened snow.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2
