Regions: Kananaskis.

Chinook conditions prevail again tomorrow.  Watch for strong winds and above seasonal temps.  Skiing is rather rugged at the moment.

Confidence

Good

Weather Forecast

Chinook conditions will prevail for a few more days.  Expect no new snow, warm temps and windy conditions.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanche activity over the past 24hrs.

Snowpack Summary

Snowpack continues to settle under the more seasonal conditions.  Strong winds have created widespread windslabs in alpine terrain and isolated areas at treeline.  These slabs are overlying a weak facetted base that has been collapsing easily under a skiers weight.  In alpine locations, the 1027 crust can still be found 10-20cm of the ground.

Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Hard wind slabs are found in lee and cross-loaded features in the Alpine and at Treeline. Steep and unsupported features are the primary concern.
Use ridges or ribs to avoid pockets of wind loaded snow.>Watch for areas of hard wind slab in steep alpine features.>

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Persistent Slabs

Avalanches that are initiated in the upper snowpack could step down to the October crust or the ground.
Assess start zones carefully and use safe travel techniques.>Be aware of the potential for wide propagations due to the presence of hard windslabs.>

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 4
