Regions: Glacier.

Riding conditions are challenging right now (crust, windslab). Could be a good time for fast travel!

Isolated pockets of buried surface hoar exist at Treeline elevations on N'ly aspects, particularly in areas with little to no human traffic.

Weather Forecast

Grey skies, light winds, and cooler temps in the coming days.

Tonight: cloudy, Alp low -9*C, freezing level (fzl) 500m, light NW winds

Tues: Isolated flurries, trace of snow. High -9*C, fzl 1000m, light/mod W winds

Wed: Isolated flurries, Alp high -10*C, light W winds

Thurs: Flurries, 6cm, Alp high -6*C, flz 1200m, mod/gusting strong SW winds

Snowpack Summary

Surface hoar to size 8mm has been observed growing on the old hard surfaces at treeline and below. Last week extreme South winds created widespread wind effect. Sun and warm temps formed a crust on solar slopes in the alpine, and on all aspects below 1650m. The Jan 29 SH layer is buried 50-80cm, and is 5-15mm in size depending aspect and elevation.

Avalanche Summary

Several loose avalanches, up to sz 2's, were observed both east and west of Rogers Pass in the highway corridor today. Start zones were mainly S-facing, but a couple originated on N-facing terrain. One on Mannix looks like it may have broken out some low elevation slabs, ~30cm deep.
