Weather Forecast
Tomorrow will see cloudy skies with temperatures hovering around -15. Some flurries are expected but accumulation will be insignificant, maybe 2 or 3cm. Winds will be from the SW and gust into the moderate range.
Avalanche Summary
We saw a few cornice collapses in the last while that triggered slopes below. The resulting avalanches were sz2 on average, running on the ground and traveling far.Â
Black Prince headwall had a sz3 that failed on ground. There were also a few other new avalanches up to sz2.
Snowpack Summary
The cold clear nights have let surface hoar develop in most areas. The storm slabs of the past few days are starting to settle, and also break down slightly with the cold temperatures. Below tree line has seen a big improvement in terms of stability. No whumphing or cracking was noted today. The deeper layers still remain the principle worry. These will take some time to work themselves out. For now recognize that these layers are weak and touchy despite the lack of new avalanche activity. Cornices seem to be collapsing lately, so heads up for those as triggers.
