Avalanche Problems

Storm Slabs

Up to 60cm of storm snow has buried a surface hoar layer that is easily triggered. Avalanches were remotely triggered at treeline from 100m. Natural avalanches have been running long distances, nearly reaching valley bottom and even dusting uptracks.

Wind Slabs

Recent ridge top winds from the south reached loading values. There is sufficient storm snow available for transport. This has likely created areas of wind slab over surface hoar on northerly aspects treeline to alpine.
