Snowpack Summary

A bit of new snow is expected in the alpine on Wednesday, which will otherwise fall as rain at lower elevations. This will fall onto a hard melt-freeze crust on all aspects and elevations except for north slopes above 2000 m, where it will fall onto dry snow and isolated wind slabs. Snow is disappearing rapidly at lower elevations. The base of the snowpack is composed of sugary faceted snow. The likelihood of triggering an avalanche on this layer is lower during colder periods and elevated during intense warming.
