Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant above the tree line. On steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry slab avalanches are possible. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry loose snow avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of new snow and wind, visible wind slabs formed. Snow depths vary greatly at intermediate and high altitudes, depending on the infuence of the wind. In particular at low and intermediate altitudes only a little snow is now lying.
