Listen up, extreme skiers: isolated lenses of windslab do exist in the high alpine. These pockets could "pop", sending the unsuspecting rider over cliffs. Choose your line wisely!

3 X's Low doesn't mean avalanches can't happen in gnarly terrain.

Summary

Weather Forecast

Continuing benign weather will persist over our region.

Today: mix of sun and cloud, Alp high -11*C, light S winds

Wed: Cloudy with isolated flurries and sunny periods, Alp high -8*C, light S winds

Thurs: Cloudy with flurries, 8cm snow, Alp high -5*C, light/mod SW winds

Fri: Cloud with isolated flurries, 4cm snow, Alp high -7*C, light/mod SW winds

Snowpack Summary

Little change, other than continued facetting and softening of previous wind effect from extreme southerly winds. Cold-weakened cornices loom over larger alpine objectives. Surface hoar growth has been observed in the alpine. Steep solar slopes have a thin sun crust. Low density snow (good skiing) persists in sheltered areas.

Avalanche Summary

On Sunday, a skier triggered a small avalanche in steep, unsupported terrain on Avalanche Crest and was swept down a gully feature.

There have been several reports of natural cornice failures recently; pay attention to what's overhead when choosing stopping spots, and give cornices a wide berth when traveling on ridges.
