Forecast Snow Stability: Moderately bonded windslab will be found in wind sheltered locations only on North through East to South aspects above 800 metres. Localised and shallower accumulations will be present below this altitude on the same aspects. Locations most affected will be sharply defined features such as corrie rims, gully tops and steep burn lines. Elsewhere, the snow will be mostly shallow with wind exposed locations scoured and bare. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Mostly dry throughout. Gale force Northerly winds easing to moderate overnight. Fresh South-Westerly winds during the morning will increase to strong by mid-afternoon. Freezing level in the glens overnight, rising to 600 metres by early afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Intermittent and mostly light snow showers overnight and during the morning, followed by a period of persistent snowfall above 500 metres after midday. Severe gale force West-South-Westerly winds early morning, increasing to storm force North-Westerly by early afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: Snowfall and drifting are forming localised accumulations of unstable windslab in wind sheltered locations only on North through East to South aspects above 800 metres. Accumulations are starting to form below this altitude but depth and distribution are not particularly extensive at present. Locations most affected are sharply defined corrie rims, gully tops and deep burn lines. Elsewhere only shallow snow exists with exposed terrain wind scoured. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
