Watch for windslabs building in lee and crossloaded features today
Cloudy with light flurries today while temperatures rise to -6. A short spell of moderate SW wind is possible this afternoon. Similar conditions tomorrow with less snow. A larger pulse of snow and wind due on Saturday night after temperatures drop again.
A few cm of new snow covers a mixture of surface facets, old wind affected snow, sun crusts and surface hoar. Ski pen is up to 25cm in sheltered areas. The snowpack is predominantly made up of strong rounded crystals. Critical layers from earlier in the winter are dormant for now.
Skier accidentals from the Ravens yesterday and Avalanche Crest a few days ago show that safe travel practices are always recommended in any avalanche terrain. Thin windslabs have been reported at and above treeline. Solar and skier triggered sluffing have also been reported. Minimize exposure to cornices and glide cracks
