Avalanche Summary

You could trigger an avalanche that breaks on weak layers buried two to four feet below the snowpack's surface. These avalanches could break wider and run further than you anticipate. Avoid traveling on steep slopes with wind-drifted snow, sides of gullies, or on steep rollovers. It might be easier to affect these weak layers in below treeline areas where you find less snow above them.
