An Avalanche Warning for the mountains of Western Wyoming is in effect through midnight tonight. Last nights snow and very strong winds have added additional load to an already unstable snowpack. Over thirty inches of snow containing over four inches of water has fallen since Wednesday. Natural activity is probable today and backcountry travellers venturing into avalanche terrain will easily trigger slab avalanches of two to four foot depths on all elevations and aspects. TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

High pressure and inverted temperatures will build over the area on Sunday. Overnight lows in mountains will be in the teens before rising into the 20s during the day. Skies will be partly cloudy. Westerly ridgetop winds will range from 15 to 25 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE on Sunday. Backcountry travelers could easily trigger slab avalanches two to four feet in depth on a variety of aspects at all elevations. On southerly aspects, warm temperatures and periods of sunshine could make these slides more susceptible to failure, along with the possibility of natural activity. Careful snowpack evaluation, cautious route finding and conservative decision making will all be essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain on Sunday.
