Forecast Snow Stability: The moist snowpack will be firm and stable throughout, snow cover diminishing at lower elevations. During the afternoon the snowpack above 800m will refreeze and be stable throughout. Any new snow accumulations forming in wind sheltered places on Northerly to Easterly aspects above 900m are not expected to achieve significant depth. The avalanche hazard will be Low
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: Winds South-Westerly throughout the forecast period, gale force becoming severe gale through the day. Freezing level well above the summits at first gradually lowering to 800 m or so during the afternoon. Precipitation will be mostly showery with rain and drizzle at all levels until around midday then occasional heavy snow later above 700 m or so. Observed Weather Influences: A mile day, freezing level at the 1000m or so initially rising steadily through the day to be well above the summits. Mostly dry but drizzle and light rain in the afternoon. South-Westerly Winds strengthening through the day to gale force. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack remains firm and stable on all aspects above 700m. Below this level, the snow is softening and depleting in the milder temperatures, but is stable throughout.
