Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on north, northeast, and east-facing slopes near and above the treeline where wind-drifted stiff snow lies a top of weak snow closer to the ground. If you notice signs of instability such as shooting cracks or collapsing in the snow consider moving to low-angle terrain or a different aspect. Below the treeline, the snow is generally too thin to trigger a dangerous avalanche.
