The General Avalanche Hazard at Upper and Mid elevations is MODERATE. Warm temperatures and rain to 9500 feet have warmed the snowpack and wet, loose sides could be easily triggered in steep areas on all aspects. At Low elevations the Hazard is CONSIDERABLE. Rain, heavy at times, has soaked the already warm snow. Easily triggered or natural slides have released in several areas. These very dangerous, heavy concrete-like slides are likely on any steep area including road cuts, ravines or even small hills. Stay away from such areas where small amounts of debris set up solid instantly. Be alert driving in the canyons for debris blocking the road.

Snow levels will drop from 10,000 feet today to the valley floor by this evening. Snow is expected through Thursday evening. Winds will be southwesterly and strong tonight and then westerly Thursday at thirty mile per hour averages with higher gusts.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS: The General Avalanche Hazard will fall overnight at Mid and Upper elevations although pockets of soft slabs may develop in lee areas near higher ridgecrests. Cooling will help strengthen the snowpack but at lower elevations rain may continue to rot the snow and the Hazard will remain at CONSIDERABE. New snow will insulate the snow from the colder temps. and hold heat from the rain in the snow.
